Proper care for the mattress is of great importance, so that the mattress can serve you for a long time and the comfort from it does not change. There are several steps to follow that will ensure a long life for your mattress and a peaceful sleep for you.
Cleaning
In general, you will not be able to wash your mattress in the traditional way. However, this does not mean that you cannot clean it. Mattresses with removable covers, even those with memory foam, can be dry cleaned.
If you need to remove a stain, use cold water and a gentle detergent. Lather well and apply the foam lightly only on the stain. Wipe gently with a suitable cloth. If necessary, repeat.
There are also cases that can be washed at low temperatures in a washing machine, but it is important to check the product label or contact the manufacturer before trying.
Turning
All double-sided mattresses can be used on both sides. They usually offer two levels of comfort – one side is firmer, while the other is softer. It is recommended to regularly (twice a year) flip the mattress with the second side facing up.
Rotating the head-to-foot axis will also extend the life of the mattress. Especially important for memory foam mattresses, this prevents the foam from deforming.
Accessories and Proper Use
Using the mattress correctly and with the right accessories is key to its durability. It should be used with a slatted bed base – in addition to adding to the comfort of the mattress, the base prevents moisture and dust retention and hinders the formation of mold. Factors such as moisture, mold, and dust are prerequisites for the development of allergies and sleep disturbances.
In case it is not possible to use a bed frame and the mattress is on a solid base, it is good to lift and air it out to ensure that there is no trapped moisture.
The protector is another important accessory. It prevents the slipping of sheets and protects against dirt and liquids. The protector for the baby mattress is especially suitable for use – this way you will ensure that dirt does not penetrate the mattress and it will remain in the best condition for your child.
